A14 Improvement Scheme - Board 16 Oakington

A14 Improvement Scheme - Board 16 Oakington

Description

The A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme was led by MOLA-Headland Infrastructure (a consortium of Museum of London Archaeology and Headland Archaeology) and was funded by National Highways. These interpretation boards were installed by Cambridgeshire County Council with Oxford Archaeology East as part of a project funded by National Highways.

In addition to the programme of archaeological investigation, the scheme also contributed to biodiversity restoration. More than a square mile of new habitat for wildlife in the form of roadside verges and the restoration of borrow pits to wildlife sanctuaries. This has included almost 25 miles of hedgerow, wildflower grasslands and over 800 bird and bat boxes have been installed.
