Nico's Paddle to the Sea to protect Children and Nature from Climate Change

Please sign up through this Eventbrite, to stay informed about the departure, route and arrival times for Nico's Paddle to the Sea, and chances to join or cheer him along the way.

Hello, my name is Nico! I am fourteen years old and I live in Cambridge, UK.

As wildfires, heatwaves and floods worsen, my friends and I are very concerned about the terrible impacts of climate change on our local fenlands and our natural systems worldwide, and on the most vulnerable people - especially children.

This summer, I am going to kayak from Cambridge where I live, through Ely and King's Lynn, to the sea, to raise funds for local and global charities who are trying to protect children's rights and nature from the impacts of climate change. To sponsor me, please link to Justgiving:

We welcome any interested Cambridgeshire children, students and others to come for the send-off. If you can access a boat, board or bike, you're welcome to come along the first part of the way with me. You can bring banners and signs about climate change for the social media photos.

If the weather cooperates, we plan to gather at 9am on Monday 28 of August 2023, at Sheep's Green on Coe Fen from the kayak landing of the Cambridge Canoe Club, in order to embark at 9:30am. We will pass through the Jesus Green Locks at 10:00am, heading out towards Bottisham Locks and onwards down the Cam River.

You can sign up here to receive news about the plans, including chances to join or cheer along the way. If we have to adjust dates due to changes in the weather or other conditions, we'll email you to keep you posted. There is also a whatsapp group where photos and updates will be posted, and I'm posting news on my blog:

Thank you!
