Glow-worms of the Great Fen

Glow worm

We are thrilled to offer another guided walk looking for the Great Fen's glow-worms! Heading out after sunset from New Decoy, follow our guide from the Community and Education team as they introduce these magnificent minibeasts and the other nocturnal wildlife you may encounter. We will have bat detectors available so you can tune in to hear anyone flying overhead.

Glow-worms are beetles and it's the female we'll be on the lookout for, as she climbs to the top of the grassland vegetation and shines a light to attract a mate. You may be asked to walk in the dark for a short time, with torches turned off, so that your eyes can become accustomed to spotting the small glow. Please consider your own mobility in this case.

Please wear sensible walking shoes or boots and bring a torch. Dress warmly with layers and bring a reusable water bottle. We recommend that children are aged over 10 due to the late nature of the walk, but attendance is at their guardian's discretion. Please note, there are no toilet facilities.

Meet in the New Decoy car park a few minutes before the walk starts.
